Fatih Akın in Cannes again

The highly-anticipated Cannes Film Festival list was released yesterday: a total of 22 films with hardly any unknown players and heavy on star directors awaits us.
It is no surprise that new films by Austrian Michael Haneke, Mexico's Carlos Reygades and Iran's Abbas Kiarostami will be competing for the Golden Palm at this year's festival which kicks off on May 16th.
There will be no Turkish film competing this year, however Turkey will be represented by both Fatih Akın with his short Sessiz and the Carrosse d'Or going to Nuri Bilge Ceylan. The showing of Akın's documentary Garbage in the Garden of Eden will also do us proud. However, on May 17th, Nuri Bilge Ceylan will be receiving the Carrosse d'Or and his film Clouds of May will be shown at the festival.
Other films include English master Ken Loach, who will be presenting a tragic-comedy focused on an ex-con trying to get his life together, entitled Angel's Share. Egyptian director Yousry Nasrallah's "Baad el Mawkeaa", which deals with the aftermath of the revolution, is a candidate to become the most political film showing in the festival. David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, which stars Robert Pattison, will be joined by KillingThem Softly, a gangster film starring Brad Pitt. Meanwhile, Reality by Italy's Matteo Garrone has also received acclaim amongst the films to be shown this year in Cannes.
